LondonMet Palestinian Society website is born!
About UsThe history of the Palestinian peoples struggle for freedom, equality, and justice is a profound and complex one spanning over one hundred years of recent history. It has become a major issue of both conflict and debate within the international political community; organisations and individuals campaigning for human rights; solidarity movements; and, more importantly for people living within or closely connected to East Asia (the Middle East) itself. The Palestinian Society at London Metropolitan University seeks not only to raise awareness of the complex and diverse issues affecting the Palestinian Diaspora but also to celebrate and promote Palestinian culture and history, as well providing educational programmes and a platform for both political and cultural debate. Throughout the year we aim to give focus to various topics which we believe are highly relevant with regards to the Palestinian people. These will include: Human rights; refugees and migration; conflict and resolution; historical viewpoints and contemporary developments; cultural expression; international relations; racism and segregation; resistance movements. If Palestine is something you have always wanted to know more about, or something you feel passionate about, come and join us and challenge your pre-conceived idea’s, established views, perceptions and understanding of all things relating to the Palestinian people and Palestine. Everybody is welcome. Services What benefits and opportunities will you provide to members of your Society? via Facebook: LondonMet Palestinian Society Page via E-mail: londonmet.ps@gmail.com |
History
The original name of our society was Hope for Palestine, which was this teaching year changed to LondonMet Palestinian Society. On 26th of October 2011 we have co-hosted an event together with other 11 Palestinian University Societies of London. The event was called Why we need a boycott of Israel on our campuses. First separate event at London Metropolitan University this teaching year was a free film screening of the award-winning 2006 documentary film Occupation 101: Voice of the Silenced Majority. The screening was attended by many interested students.
